The Weather Is Changing-Time to Book Your Smoky Mountain Homes

August 24th, 2011 jwhite Posted in Buyers, Community Events, Things To Do No Comments »

Selections ranging from a Sevierville cabin to a Gatlinburg home offer visitors, a close and personal view of our area.  These rental homes allow new people to experience the Tennessee Smokies almost like a local.  Our blog for this week is focused on upcoming events that typically occur in late summer/early fall.  As we get ready to put out this blog, changes are afoot.  Just this week, it seems the lid came off the pressure cooker.  Our temperatures and humidity have left like triple digit since April.  However, in the past few days there has been a shift for the more comfortable.  Up on Ski Mountain Road in Gatlinburg some trees are beginning to turn color.  All of these items are indicators that change is in the air.  When it’s getting really comfortable to be outside there is usually a multitude of fun activities in our region.

One of the best known and well attended of our area’s events is just a few weeks away.  The “Shades of the Past” car show will be held at Dollywood’s Splash Country, September 9th & 10th of this year. This features hot rods and other custom collectible cars and chassis’s through 1972.  One week after “Shades of the Past” rod show is the 2011 Grand Fall Rod Run held on the strip in Pigeon Forge.  This event is scheduled September 15th-19th.  This is a huge car show with almost all day and night activities.  If you do not like cars, hot rods, etc. avoid this area for these 2 weeks.  Traffic congestion is intense, but for vehicle enthusiasts, this is a heavenly event.

If you would like a home base here in the Smokies, check out our website.  We have geared everything to help our prospective clients find a property to suit their needs.  Hop on today and get started.  Then all our fun activities become available anytime you choose to attend.

Enjoy The Elegance of Lodging at Homes in Gatlinburg on Your Visit to the Tennessee Smokies

August 17th, 2011 jwhite Posted in Community Events, History Facts of Gatlinburg, Things To Do 1 Comment »

This area has a huge selection of mountain homes that provide wonderful accomodations for your family’s stay here in the  Tennnessee  Smokies.  Some people are unaware that the name “Tennessee Smokies” has a meaning beyond our majestic mountains.  This name also refers to our local double A minor league baseball team.  This week’s blog will focus on our “Tennessee Smokies” baseball team.  Baseball has been nicknamed “America’s Pastime”.  Our baseball team lives up to that, by offering everyone another entertainment attraction in the area.  Locals and visitors alike will find our ballpark conveniently located on the northeast corner of exit 407 off Interstate 40.  The Tennessee Smokies as a baseball team go back in area history to 1896.  At that time they were located in Knoxville and were known as the Knoxville Indians.  The team had a sporatic and choppy past.  They had numerous re-incarnations under different; owners, leagues, and names.  There were periods of time (such as the great epression and world wars) when the team did not exist.  The Smokies were revived after World War II under a number of owners and different team names.  They functioned as a minor league farm team for various major league teams and played in different leagues within the minor leagues.  There were numerous changes in these periods of team history and some of these included various locations for the home ballpark within the Knoxville area.

The team experienced a radical change of direction when in 2000 they relocated from Knoxville to it’s new home in Sevierville at a new state-of-the-art stadium off exit 407.  The team has done well in it’s new home, winning division titles and coming in second place in the championships.  The easy to reach location makes this a fun destination for the baseball fans visiting our area.  Go online to get other details and historical information.

Many people who rent vacation homes in the Smokies decide that they want to own similar property for investment or as a permanent residence.  If you get inspired to buy property in the Tennessee Smokies, hop on our website.  There is everything available to assist you in your search.

Smoky Mountain Real Estate Put You in Touch with the Historic Arts & Crafts Community

July 20th, 2011 jwhite Posted in Buyers, Community Events, History Facts of Gatlinburg, Things To Do No Comments »

Gatlinburg artists and authentic crafts

Smoky Mountain homes bring you back to the nation’s largest group of independent artisans.  Almost one hundred individual; galleries, studios, and shops occupy the loop along Rte 321, Buckhorn Road and Glades Road.  When you consider additional stores outside of this hub of artists, that’s an awesome selection.  Shoppers who appreciate unique, quality-made items love to buy creations from these places.  In an age, when a majority of what we purchase is made cheaply, on the opposite side of the world.  Our Arts and Crafts Community is special.  The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community was founded in 1937.  Like other locations in these Southern Mountains, wise individuals saw value in preserving the crafts of a bygone era.  The products of these artisans still have value in our modern society.  When a storm or other event knocks out power, it is nice to have beautiful candles for light and a nice quilt to keep us warm.

Another aspect of this community is that your money gets spent here, where it feeds local people, not foreigners living one-half-a-world away.  With the current state of our economy, it is crucial to spend money where it helps our local population.  In addition, these artisans produce products that are often unique, one-of-a-kind items.  Anyone who appreciates quality would choose an object fabricated with care and attention, over mass produced assembly-line items.  Go online and you can pull up links that will give you more details on all these artistic endeavors.

If being close to all these wonderful arts and crafts, calls to you, then consider living here, or buy a vacation home in the area.  Either option provides you with close contact to the artists.  You also, could take classes to learn these skills.  Centers like Arrowmont in Gatlinburg, allow for study with artists and artisans. They share their skills with future craftspeople.  Begin your property quest on our website and define your personal search options.  When it’s time to view the finalists in your search, schedule time with our professionals and seal the deal.

Smoky Mountain real estate could be your ticket to an extended golfing season.  The beautiful mountains of East Tennessee are well known for a cornucopia of outdoor sports and activities.  Camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, white water rafting, boating, and horseback riding are just a part of the outside action that one can enjoy in this area.  However, golf is not world-renowned in this region.  It is interesting that locally, golf is a growing sport that continues to improve each year.  A lot of money has been spent in Sevier County alone on upgrading existing courses, as well as building new golf links. This investment in golfing has provided local residents and visitors with another attraction that brings people to the area.  As the courses mature and word gets out, this money should prove to be well spent.

Our steep and variable terrain makes building many projects a challenge.  Golf courses are no exception.  However, the difficult topography does provide an awesome backdrop for scenery, and the elevation changes will bring out the best or worst in a person’s golf skills.  Sevierville has the newest courses in the area, which are just being completed.  The Sevierville Golf Club features two championship 18-hole courses.  “The Highlands” is a par 70 built on hills and around fresh water ponds off Old Knoxville Highway.  “The River” is a par 72 course built along the Little Pigeon River that is visible off Winfield Dunn Pkwy (66) as you come south off I-40 into Sevierville.  Sevierville Golf Course offers fine dining including beverage of your choice, and other amenities like a driving range and putting green to sharpen your skills.  Gatlinburg shares the Gatlinburg Golf Course adjacent to Dollywood on the edge of Pigeon Forge.  It is worth a round of golf just to take in the views of the Smokies.  Out on the east side of Gatlinburg and Pittman Center lies Bent Creek Golf Course.  It is close to the Cobbly Nob development and is just across 321 (Foothills Parkway) from the National Park.

For those residents of the area and long-term visitors there are day trips into; Georgia, the Carolinas’, Virginia, and other surrounding states to fulfill your golfing appetites.  If you are considering becoming an East Tennessee resident, or just acquiring a vacation home, venture onto our website.  We geared everything for our clients.  There are links and tons of material on area activities on “Read My Blog“.  Set up your property search criteria at your convenience and contact our team of professionals when you are ready to buy. We are here and available to help in any way.

Folks in Gatlinburg Homes and Across Our Nation Love a Great Fourth of July Celebration

June 1st, 2011 jwhite Posted in Community Events, Holidays in the Smokies, Things To Do 3 Comments »

Gatlinburg properties and nearby locations in the Tennessee Smokies get a front row seat for some awesome July 4th festivities.  That is why we wanted to provide our blog readers with some early notice for this area’s fine activities that celebrate our nation’s birthday.  Gatlinburg will begin it’s 36th year for the first 4th of July parade in the country.  The parade line-up begins late on July 3rd and the parade starts on the stroke of midnight when the clock ticks over to July 4th.  There will be approximately 100,000 spectators viewing the parade participants.  The event is highly patriotic with an emphasis that honors current and past military personnel.  These individuals have served this country by risking their lives for our freedom.  The parade highlights their sacrifice.  The procession is over a mile long and has a variety of components from elaborate floats to marching bands.  More detail are available via Gatlinburg’s website.

Another key element on the area’s July 4th celebration is Restless Heart.  They will headline at the Patriot Festival in Pigeon Forge on their 4th of July celebration.  The group had 4 gold albums and six #1 country singles in the early 1980′s  Additional flavor will be provided by The Return , a Beatles tribute band and Jimbo Whaley & Greenbrier, a local bluegrass group.  All of this entertainment is free, courtesty of the City of Pigeon Forge.

Other area events include an Indepence Day sidewalk sale at the Beltz Outlet stores.  Downtown Gatlinburg hosts a great fireworks display downtown on July 4th at 10pm. Pigeon Forge also has a fireworks display on July 4th at Patriot Park.

We present many of these events to entice you to come and visit.  However, there is nothing quite like owning property here in the Smokies.  When you own something in the area, you can visit based on your schedule.  Venture on our website and look for something that fills your needs. Once you find it our expert staff is ready to help you seal the deal.  Begin today to find your home in the Smokies!!

Gatlinburg Homes Enjoy a Unique Firefly Display

May 18th, 2011 jwhite Posted in Community Events, Things To Do 3 Comments »

Our Smoky Mountain real estate enjoys some phenomenal benefits from Mother Nature.  People flock to these wonderous mountains to view the natural splendor that permeates the area.  The biodiversity of this region rivals some of the equatorial rain forests. Our changes in elevation allow for plant and animal life that are normally found in other areas.  These climatic niches provide the perfect environment to nurture a multitude of flora and fauna.

Among the wonders of the Smokies are synchronous fireflies. Many people have seen fireflies. However, the Smokies are one of a few locations on earth where the fireflies flash in unison.  This natural phenomenon occurs when all of the male individuals of one species synchronize their flashing light sequence.  This light flashing is part of the lightning bug mating display.  There are about 14 species of fireflies in the Great Smoky Mountain Park.  Each species has a unique light pattern.  It helps each type to identify its own kind.  The males fly and flash while females remain grounded and flash back.  Light color and flash patterns vary by species.  Lighting activity seems to peak in a 2 week time frame around mid June.  Flashing is not always together.  Sometimes it is in waves or at random.

To celebrate this phenomenon, the National Park will close the Elkmont entrance road to motor vehicles from 5-12 pm, June 4-12th to allow Gatlinburg trolleys to bring in viewers.  Cost is $1.00/person round trip.  Flashlights can interfere with people’s night vision and disrupt the firefly beetles.  Cover your light with red or blue cellophane.  Use your light minimally only when moving to or from a viewing spot.  Point the light down and turn it off when you reach your destination.

If you are considering a trip to this area, schedule some firefly viewing.  Go online and view synchronous fireflies for more details. If you are thinking about real estate in the Smokies, contact the Jason White Team.  Begin your quest online and get pre-approved to know what financing options are available.  When it is time to finalize your search, call on our team of experts.  Begin at your convenience anytime.

Owners of Gatlinburg Homes Know the Parade of Spring Has Begun!

April 27th, 2011 jwhite Posted in Community Events, Things To Do No Comments »

Spring in the Smokies

Our mountain homes provide a front row seat to the splendor of nature’s seasons.  As this blog has mentioned before, each season offers something totally unique.  However, after an unusually cold and lengthy winter, our mountains seem primed for spring.  Many of Mother Nature’s admirers seem to know the sequence of blooms that mark the grand procession of spring’s parade of color.  The yellow of daffodils mixed with narcissus and forsythia challenges the whites’ of bradford pears and star magnolias.  Now we mix in tulips followed by the color palate of iris.  The striking purple hues of red buds blend with white and pink of native dogwoods.  All this time, the iridescent greens of forest leaves creep back up the mountain side.  The leaf tide begins in the lower hollows with early leafed trees like willows.  This continues upward with later to leaf out trees like; oaks, hickories, and walnuts.

Presently, the East Tennessee Smokies are witnessing the leaf out of the deciduous trees.  Cultivated rhododendron, azaleas, and wild flame azaleas are in bloom.  The forest floor is coming alive with blooms from a multitude of wild flowers.  Phlox, trillium, irises, daisies, buttercups, and loads more, flowering each day.  Our temperatures have been up and down, but the trend is warming up.  We are close to our average rainfall with plenty of water for the; creeks, rivers, and plant kingdom.  All of this seems to indicate a good year for gardens and the landscape in general.

Spring is a great time of the year to visit.  The lush forests of these mountains seem to fill in more and more each day.  If you are contemplating a purchase of real estate for any reason, hop on our website to begin at your own pace and within your personal time frame.  Our team of professionals stands ready to assist in the process of buying or selling whenever we are needed.  Contact us at your convenience, to get started.
